Dummy grenades found in airport mail room

SYDNEY (AP) -- Two hand grenades in a package caused a scare at Sydney Airport Sunday before they were found to be harmless souvenirs.

Police said workers at the airport's mail center found the World War II-era grenades in an outbound package during a routine check.

Staff were evacuated and police and army officers raced to the scene, where it was determined the grenades were memorabilia and posed no danger.

No further action would be taken, as it was not an offense to send such items through the mail, a police spokeswoman said, on customary condition of anonymity.
