SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Teams have some new sponsors -- two downtown Salt Lake City malls.
The teams signed a three-year marketing alliance this week allowing ZCMI Center Mall and Crossroads Plaza to use the teams' logo to promote and market their properties.
In exchange, the teams are allowed to sell their licensed products throughout the malls, which have 230 retail stores and some 10 million visitors per year.
All coins tossed into the malls' wishing wells will also go directly to the ski and snowboard teams.
The aim is to increase exposure and generate revenue for athletes training for the 2002 Winter Games.
"It's harder and harder to tap into corporate dollars," said David Johnston, U.S. Ski Team licensing manager. "Partnering up with the downtown malls will help us attract additional sponsorship and create fund-raising opportunities."
The team based in Park City, about 30 miles east of Salt Lake City, and many of the nation's top skiers and snowboarders live there.
