Canada wins first game at water polo Olympic qualifier

HANOVER, Germany (CP) -- Mark Block, Kent Hardisty and Yannick Lize each scored twice on Saturday to lead the Canadian men's water polo team to an 8-2 win over Colombia in its first game at an Olympic qualifying tournament.

Darryl Bourne and Mikael Sabo, teammates on Vancouver's Pacific Storm club team, also scored for Canada, which scored seven consecutive goals before Colombia got on the scoreboard. Mark Block also plays for the Storm while Hardisty and Lize play for CAMO in Montreal.

Joan F. Giraldo and Alejandro Madrid scored for Colombia.

The tournament ends next weekend with the top four teams earning berths in the Sydney Olympics.
