Igor a stay-at-home type
By JEAN LEFEBVRE -- Calgary Sun
The number of Olympians on the Calgary Flames is at three and holding.
A report out of Ottawa yesterday suggested Igor Kravchuk would get a call to fill in for injured defenceman Dmitry Yushkevich on the Russian team but the 35-year-old from Ufa doesn't expect to join teammates Jarome Iginla, Roman Turek and Ronald Petrovicky in Salt Lake City.
"I saw that story in the paper," said Kravchuk yesterday, "but I haven't heard anything."
Nor does he expect to, suggesting others, such as St. Louis' Alexander Khavanov, are ahead of him on the backup list.
Kravchuk is a seasoned international warrior who has already participated in three Olympics, winning gold with the Soviet Union at Calgary in 1988 and with the Commonwealth of Independent States at Albertville in 1992 as well as a silver with Russia at Nagano in 1998.
Petrovicky, who turns 25 next week, is expected to leave the Flames and head to Utah today as he tries to help Peter Stastny's Slovak squad advance to the main Olympic tournament.
Slovakia faces Germany this afternoon in one of the opening games of the qualifying tournament. The Slovaks play Latvia tomorrow and Austria on Tuesday.
