Redden in mix for Olympics
By BRUCE GARRIOCH -- Ottawa Sun
FORT LAUDERDALE -- Wade Redden is still holding out hope for a shot at Olympic gold.
The Senators defenceman admits he's keeping an eye on the injury list to see if he'll get a chance to play for Team Canada next month in Salt Lake City.
Redden was passed over in favour of Edmonton's Eric Brewer and Vancouver's Ed Jovanoski during the original selections announced Dec. 15. The final list is due Feb. 15.
"Obviously, you don't want to see anybody get hurt because you don't want your shot that way," said Redden. "But I know that if anything happens, I've got a shot to be there."
Redden has been the Senators' top defenceman this season. He didn't do himself any favours in the recent series against Toronto, but decisions won't be based on two games.
Team Canada has two injured blueliners: St. Louis' Al MacInnis is out for two weeks with back problems, while Colorado's Adam Foote has a knee injury.
"He's played pretty well and if we run into any problems, he'll probably be the one," said Senators coach Jacques Martin, an associate on Pat Quinn's Team Canada staff.
