Robin Clegg needed to go to an arbitrator to assure his selection to the Olympic team. Clegg had met only one of the two required criteria set by the Canadian Olympic Association at the selection cut-off date of January 13, 2002. However he placed a career-high 31st at a Word Cup race January 23 which would have met the second required criteria. Biathlon Canada immediately launched an appeal through the ad hoc commission of the new dispute resolution mechanism under the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport. Clegg, who had met the criteria set by the International Biathlon Union, won his case and is therefore headed to his first Games.

"It's a bit of a relief," he said. "But I'm a little surprised. I didn't expect it to go through. I guess, historically, it hasn't worked out for most cases, especially biathlon."

Clegg is a six-time national champion and was a double silver medallist at the 1995 Canada Games. He'll be Canada's only biathlon entry at the Games.
