Jaime Fortier was among Canada's top performers last season in the same-day pursuit, a cross country skiing event which will make its debut at the Salt Lake City Games. The event was introduced on the Continental Cup and World Cup circuits in 1999.

The original pursuit was initially at the Games and held over two days with a shorter classic style race on the first day and a longer skating style on the second day. But last year it was combined into a single day event and is comprised of two five-kilometre races for the women.

This is the second Olympic experience for Fortier, who plans to attend medical school when her skiing career concludes.

"Last Olympics my goal was to make it," she said. "This time I want to perform well."
