Mark Knoll will battle the powerful Dutch, German and Norwegian skaters the men's 5,000 and 10,000 metre races at the Olympics. Knoll was 11th at the world championships last year in Salt Lake City and a top-10 result at the Games would be a satisfying result for him.

Knoll burst on the international stage back in 1995 when placed second overall at the world junior championships and duplicated that result a year later. He competed at the 1998 Olympics and placed 24th in the 5,000.

An excellent all around athlete, Knoll was a provincial all star in field lacrosse in 1994 and competed in the 1,000-metre and pursuit at the 1999 national track cycling championships.
