KOHO Kids participate in Icepro Skills Competition
WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA . . .Following the Phantoms-Cincinnati game on Wednesday, January 6th at the First Union Spectrum, six of the Delaware Valley's finest youth hockey players were selected in a mini skills competition as the 1999 Koho Kids. As a Koho Kid, each player will participate in the IcePro AHL All-Star Skills Competition at the 1999 First Union AHL All-Star Classic on January 24, alongside the American Hockey League All-Stars. Each All-Star team roster will include three Koho Kids. The scores of the Koho Kids in the Fastest Skater, Accuracy Shooting, and Puck Control Relay will count towards the overall score of their respective teams.
"The American Hockey League appreciates the support of Koho in making this youth hockey initiative possible," said Michael Humes, AHL Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing. "We are honored to give these young players an opportunity to exhibit their skills at the IcePro Skills Competition."
Those competing for the Canadian All-Star team are; Ryan Taft of the Little Flyers along with Tim Wochok and John Brennan, both of the Junior Flyers. The Koho Kids competing for the PlanetUSA All-Star team are; Chris Armstrong of the Delaware Ducks along with John Geverd and Joe Viscuse, both of the Valley Forge Minutemen. Each player is among the top eight leading scorers in the Delaware Valley Hockey League in their respective divisions.

"It's great to see these kids have a chance to meet the NHL stars of tomorrow and to gain some invaluable experience in sharpening their hockey skills."
The 1999 First Union AHL All-Star Classic will be held on Sunday, January 24 and Monday, January 25 at the First Union Center in Philadelphia, PA. The IcePro AHL All-Star Skills Competition will take place on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. with the All-Star Game to be held on Monday at 8 p.m. The Skills Competition will be televised live on Comcast SportsNet and other regional sports networks around the United States and across Canada on TSN. The AHL All-Star Game will be televised live on ESPN2 in the United States and across Canada on TSN and RDS.

Chris Armstrong, a 14 year-old forward from Bear, DE, is participating with PlanetUSA. He currently plays for the Delaware Ducks of the Delaware Valley Hockey League's Tier II. His greatest hockey thrill was being selected as a Koho Kid. Chris is currently a freshman at Caravel Academy. His hockey idol is Eric Lindros.
John Geverd, a 14 year-old forward Horsham, PA is participating with PlanetUSA. He currently plays for the Valley Forge Minutemen of the Delaware Valley Hockey League's Tier I. John is currently a freshman at LaSalle High School. His hockey idol is AHL alumnus John LeClair.
Joe Viscuse, a 14 year-old forward from Philadelphia, PA, is participating with Planet USA. He currently plays for the Valley Forge Minutemen of the Delaware Hockey League's Tier I. His greatest hockey thrill was winning District's as a Squirt. Joe is currently a freshman at LaSalle High School. His hockey idol is Sergei Federov.
Team Canada KOHO Kids Biographies
John Brennan, a 15 year-old from Wayne, PA, is participating with Team Canada. He currently plays for the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers of the Delaware Valley Hockey League's Tier I. His greatest hockey thrill was winning Pee Wee Regionals. John is currently enrolled as freshman at Radnor High School. His hockey idol is AHL alumnus John LeClair.
Ryan Taft, a 15 year-old forward from Warminster, PA is participating with Team Canada. He currently plays for the Philadelphia Little Flyers of the Delaware Hockey League's Tier I. His greatest hockey thrill was scoring three goals in 38 seconds on his great-grandmother's birthday. Ryan is currently enrolled as a sophomore at Central Bucks East High School. His hockey idol is Eric Lindros.
Tim Wochok, a 14 year-old center from Malvern, PA is participating with Team Canada. He currently plays for the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers of the Delaware Valley Hockey League's Tier I. His greatest hockey thrill was when he just narrowly missed being selected to participate at Nationals. Tim is currently a freshman at Malvern Prep. His hockey idol is AHL alumnus John LeClair.
Each All-Star team roster will include three Koho Kids. The players were selected through participating in a mini-skills competition. The scores of the Koho Kids in the Fastest Skater, Accuracy Shooting and Puck Control Relay will count towards the overall score of either PlanetUSA All-Stars or the Canadian All-Stars, depending on which team the Kids are on.
