B*Witched, Beware
By Stephanie McGrath AllPop
Awake and Breathe
B*Witched
(Epic Records)
Sorry B*Witched fans, but "Awake and Breathe" isn't the best pop album ever.
Sometimes, repetitive songs can grow on you. You'll find yourself singing along with the radio or humming the chorus while you're trying to sleep. This won't happen with "Jesse Hold On."
The single goes on and on and on.
You might find yourself holding onto the next-track button as you try to escape from the "oooohs," "ahhhhs" and "yeahs".
If the annoying choruses aren't enough to drive you away, how about chirping bird sound-effects and some sort of lion-king type back up vocals found on "I Shall Be There."
The problem with the slow tracks, like this one, is that the slow pace gives listeners a chance to hear the lyrics. Unfortunately, the words are pretty mindless and not really worth listening too anyway.
"I shall be there (be there yeah!) Will you be there. I shall be there (be there yeah!) Will you be there too?"
You might want to make sure you're somewhere else when this track comes on.
The other slow songs like "It Was Our Day," are depressing and don't seem to mesh well with the faster tracks.
The four Irish singers sound best when they're just boppin' along, singing a light pop song about lost love or a new boyfriend like "My Superman," "Blame It On The Weatherman," and "Jump Down," three tracks that are catchy and fun.
There doesn't seem to be any break-out hits on this album. The girls sound like a weak version of big pop acts.
There's lot's of pop music competition out there, and a lot of it's much better than "Awake and Breathe".
