Backstreet Boy having heart surgery
By KAREN BLISS -- Jam! Music
Doctors won't be playing games with Brian Littrell's heart.
The Backstreet Boy is reportedly having surgery the first week of April.
"It's a condition he's had since he was a child," says Cameron Carpenter, director of national press and artists relations at BMG Music Canada.
"It's elective surgery, but from what I understand it is involved with the heart, but I don't know what for."
The Florida-based vocal pop quintet won't have to cancel any concert dates, according to Cameron. "They're just finishing the U.S. tour (March 17), then Brian will go in and have that done and be off for four weeks, while the rest of the guys do promo, then they'll pick up the European tour."
Canada, the Backstreet Boys best territory, won't get a return visit from the teen sensations until July.
The group, which sold out Toronto's SkyDome in January, recently received a double-diamond award for the collective sales of their two albums and home video in Canada.
The self-titled album is diamond (1 million); the latest, Backstreet's Back, is 8x platinum; the video has sold almost 400,000 units.
