Mel C confronts rumours

Rumours continue to fly about Spice Girl Mel C.

Since cropping her hair, Sporty Spice has been called a lesbian by tabloids, and the latest story is that Mel is having an affair with her female personal assistant, Ying Yau, the Press Association reports.

Reports said that Mel and her assistant shared a hotel room while they were enjoying a Caribbean vacation, but Mel is denying the rumours.

"People ask me when I'm coming out, I'm never going to come out, because I'm not gay," she told Heat magazine. "I really don't care what people say about me. But if I was gay I couldn't live a lie. I'm too honest a person -- I would have to admit it. I've had worse things said about me. It's not even a bad thing, it's just not true."

Mel went on to explain the reason for her "weight gain", which has also been widely reported.

"The reason I've put on weight is because I've not been training as hard as normal. I've been going out, I've been drinking, I've been eating junk food, I've been enjoying my life and I've put on a bit of weight."

The U.K.'s obsession with Mel's weight gain is a bit ironic considering the same newspapers were harassing Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice) about being too thin and possibly anorexic earlier this year.
