More Spice fight gossip
Mel C almost left the Spice Girls.
Yesterday, AllPop reported that Sporty Spice had a fight with the Spice Girls over the Christmas holidays that almost ended up in a Spice split. Today we've learned a bit more about the Spice fight.
According to The Daily Star, Mel told the girls she wanted to focus on her solo career, and Posh, Scary and Baby didn't take the news well.
Mel broke the news during a meeting before Christmas, at which the girls were discussing future tour dates and new album.
"The girls were all there talking through Spice plans when Mel C announced she wanted to leave," a friend of the girls said. "It was terrible. Victoria, Emma and Mel G were distraught. The band had all believed they would stay together indefinitely."
Victoria, Emma and Mel B convinced Sporty to think over her departure before making the news public, and when the group heard they were winning the Outstanding Contribution To British Music honour at the Brit Awards, Mel decided to stay.
When the Spice Girls performed at the awards ceremony, Mel C burst into tears.
"You could see the emotion when Mel burst into tears at the end of the Brits," a friend said. "It showed just how close to leaving the band she had been."
Although Mel C's debut solo album, "Northern Star", is floundering on the North American charts, it's doing well in the UK.
