The Spice Girls have become Spice Women.
Looking fit, stylish and devoid of their old gimmicks -- no high hair, enormous platform boots and garish make-up -- Posh, Scary, Sporty and Baby have given their fans both a new look and a new sound.
"Holler", the first single off their upcoming "Forever" album, is a catchy R&B-flavoured single that features a more mellow sound than the pop songs ("Wannabe", "Stop") that made the U.K. girl-group famous.
The video is an ethereal look at each of the four group members as they pose suggestively for the camera and take turns representing the elements (fire, water, wind, earth).
The single and video are hypnotic. The song repeats a seamless chorus that immediately catches on without become irritating ("I wanna make you holler, I want to make you scream my name, so you could play my game..."), while the images flash from bright green grass, blue water, vibrant fire and a white, windy room to a shot of group members dancing on a pyramid-like platform.
"Holler" marks the Spice Girls' departure from their days of collectable stickers and technicoloured dolls and entry into a new, more adult direction while maintaining their sense of fun.
Fans dying to catch the "Holler" video and listen to the single, can find both at the girls' official
website.
MuchMusic will debut the video on tomorrow (Tuesday) at noon ET. The single will be released to Canadian radio today, as well.
Meanwhile, "Holler" will be released as a double A-side on Oct. 23 in the U.K., with another new song titled "Let Love Lead the Way".
"We love both just as much as each other and couldn't decide which to release - so we released them together!!", gushes a message on the Spice Girls website.
"Forever" the group's first complete album without former bandmate Geri Halliwell, is scheduled for release on Nov. 7.
