Spice Girls wannabe movie stars
Saunders to co-write Spice Girls film script
With the help of Absolutely Fabulous creator Jennifer Saunders, English chart-smashers the Spice Girls are set to turn their formidable talents to the big screen, according to Variety.
Jennifer Saunders and Kim Fuller are writing the script for the project, and Bob Spiers ("Fawlty Towers", "Absolutely Fabulous") is set to direct. The film will be produced by Barnaby Thompson and Un Fruchtmann's Fragile Films.
The film, billed as "A Hard Day's Night" meets "Wayne's World," will start shooting in July, and is due for release at Christmas. The Spice Girls' second album, to be released a month before the movie, will feature songs from the sountrack.
PolyGram Filmed Entertainment is negotiating for the United Kingdom, Benelux, Australia and Spanish rights to the film. All other international territories will be sold by Icon Entertainment International at Cannes.
