Spice Girls will do U.S. tour, with or without Ginger

LONDON (AP) -- Nobody's saying whether there are going to be four or five Spices, but the Spice Girls are definitely going ahead with their U.S. tour which starts June 14.

Reports that all is not well in Spiceworld surfaced Wednesday after Ginger Spice, Geri Halliwell, 25, failed to appear with the all-female group at the televised National Lottery Draw.

She also missed concerts in Oslo on Thursday and Friday night. So Baby Spice (Emma Bunton), Posh Spice (Victoria Adams), Sporty Spice (Melanie Chisholm) and Scary Spice (Melanie Brown) performed without her for the first time.

The official line has been that Halliwell had suffered a bout of gastroenteritis, and was recuperating.

The group's record company, Virgin, played down unconfirmed reports in Britain's tabloids that Halliwell had quit the chart-topping group after a blowup with the others.

Virgin said she would be joining the others for the two-month American tour.

The band's spokesman said he had be told that lawyers for the Spice Girls were meeting.

"I think a lot of decisions will be made over the weekend," the spokesman said, speaking on condition he not be identified.

Since the Spice Girls sacked manager Simon Fuller last year, all decisions affecting the band have been made by the five members themselves, the spokesman said.

"Whatever comes out of this won't affect the continuation of the group, of that I'm sure. They will be going on tour (in the United States) the week after next," the spokesman said.
