Spice Girls to release Christmas single
By JOHN SAKAMOTO Executive Producer, Jam! Showbiz
Never ones to miss a marketing opportunity, the Spice Girls will release a special extended-play single just in time for the lucrative Christmas shopping season.
"It's called the 'Goodbye EP'," Virgin Music Canada's national marketing manager, Doug Caldwell, said Wednesday in Toronto.
"November 17th is the projected release date for Canada and the U.S."
Caldwell didn't know what other material would be on the EP, or whether the title track would eventually surface on the third Spice Girls album, slated for release some time next year.
The song will be the first new Spice Girls music since the departure of Geri (Ginger Spice) Halliwell.
Meanwhile, due out on the same day as the "Goodbye EP" is a new long-form concert video, "Live At Wembley", recorded earlier this year.
Though there had been talk of airing the show as a pay-per-view special in Canada prior to its Nov. 17 release on home video, a spokesperson for the Viewer's Choice network in Toronto said Wednesday that they had no plans at this time to air "Live At Wembley".
