Baby boy for Posh Spice

LONDON (AP) -- Spice Girl Victoria Adams gave birth Thursday night to a boy.

The baby, born at 7:28 p.m. local time and weighing seven lbs, will be called Brooklyn Joseph, his father David Beckham told reporters.

"Victoria is very well," he said of his fiancee Posh Spice. "She is sitting up drinking champagne and has spoken to the other girls."

"The birth was natural and there were no complications, nothing at all," the Manchester United soccer star added.

Adams, 24, is the second of the member of the Spice Girls pop group to give birth.

(Scary Spice) Melanie G, who was known as Mel B before her marriage to dancer Jimmy Gulzar, gave birth to a daughter last month. They called the baby Phoenix Chi.

She, too, gave birth at Portland Hospital for Women and Children in Central London, where Adams had her baby.

The Spice Girls' manager, Alan Edwards, said the other members of the band planned to visit Victoria either later Thursday or this morning.

A spokeswoman for the band said the couple had chosen the name Brooklyn because Adams discovered she was pregnant while in New York on a Spice Girls tour.

As news of the event spread, a small group of Spice Girls and Beckham fans gathered outside the hospital hoping for a glimpse of the stars.
