Posh documentary demands too posh
By RICHARD JOHN -- AllPop
Don't plan on seeing a Posh Spice/David Beckham documentary any time soon.
According to the Telegraph, a deal with the British Granada Television company fell through after the celebrity pop singer and her Manchester United midfielder husband began to make ludicrous demands.
To begin with, the couple "demanded the right to hire and fire staff working on the programme, the right to censor its content and the payment of a non-returnable fee of £50,000."
The duo also insisted that the finished documentary be aired in prime time on ITV (aka Channel 3 in the UK), and be aired in North America. Posh (real name Victoria Adams) and Beckham also demanded 40 per cent of royalties from the documentary and on-screen credits for their respective production companies.
Granada, who had previously completed similar programmes on former EastEnder star Martine McCutcheon and Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, were said to be "horrified" at the demands.
A senior TV producer told the Telegraph: "It's incredible what celebrities like these two think they can get away with. Whether it is their management companies or the couple themselves behind this, they're behaving like little tin gods.
"They would be getting free publicity worth millions but still they have to ask for another £50,000 and a share of royalties. It beggars belief really."
The outrageous demands come on the heels of the exclusive £1 million deal the celebrity couple demanded for coverage of their wedding. The event, which took place in Ireland, was covered by the British publication OK! magazine.
While the Granada documentary is effectively dead, fellow ITV company Carlton Television is said to be close to a documentary deal with the couple.
