Robbie Williams hands out money for school

Robbie Williams has been enjoying a charitable mood lately.

The U.K. pop king donated $109,329 (Cdn) to his old school - St Margaret Ward RC High School, Music 365 reports.

Robbie made the donation after he learned of the school's plans to form a performing arts school. The donation will go towards the application to become an arts centre.

If the application goes through, the school will be awarded a $1,530,611 (Cdn) government grant that will go towards developing strong music, dance and drama programs.

If the arts school goes through, the head teacher, Conrad Bannon, plans to name the new arts centre in Robbie's honour.

"Robbie's mother knew the school was seeking to become a performing arts college," Head teacher Conrad Bannon, told the Daily Star newspaper. She will have certainly mentioned this to him and he phoned me to tell me he wanted to give us this money. Robert has not only helped the youngsters at the school but many others too."

Robbie's generous mood didn't end there though, the singer surprised club-goers on Monday night in Newcastle with free champagne.

After finishing a performance Robbie arrived at a bar and yelled "The drinks are on me!"

"He only had a few drinks but bought everybody in sight a drink," said Bob Senior, the owner of the club. "He was a really genuine guy. He did splash the cash but he wasn't showing off, he was just being nice."
