Robbie tops the charts

Robbie Williams knocked last week's chart champion Geri Halliwell off the number one slot on the U.K. charts.

The U.K. pop star went to number one with She's The One/It's Only Us, reported BBC News. The single is Robbie's second number one song and the 33rd number one single of 1999.

Will Smith's "Will 2K" hit number two and Al's "Every Time/Ready or Not" debuted at number three. Geri, who beat Emma to number one last week, dropped to number four with her single "Lift Me Up".

According to HMV chart expert Jason Legg, the ever-changing charts can be blamed on good marketing.

"Marketing is more sophisticated than ever with a big push for the number one slot in the first week of release," he said.

"There's a lot less longevity in singles but sales are still strong," he told BBC News.

This year, the longest any single has stayed at the top is three weeks.
