Fox's retro Mondays

The Fox network is showing its faith in "That '70s Show" by switching it from Tuesday to Monday for the all-important sweeps period.

The idea of your own mom or dad inadvertently fried on an illegal, mind-altering substance may be horrifying, but just imagine watching it happen to your friends' parents.

Now, you're smiling.

Well, get ready to laugh as the tray of magic brownies pops out of the oven and down the throats of four adults in tonight's hilarious return of That '70s Show.

Don't worry, I haven't given away a huge secret in the munchie-laced second season launch that hits the air at 8:30 p.m. on ITV (Cable 8).

After only a few moments into the show, ultra-cool Steve Hyde (Danny Masterson) agrees to contribute special brownies to the Forman family garage sale. You can pretty much guess the direction of this storyline.

That's right, way up, as in high as a kite.

For those new to this show - and this is a case of better late than never - this is a wickedly delightful creation that revolves around a group of basically good teens in suburban Wisconsin.

Roll back the clock to a time when ultra-tight pants were hot, the Bee Gees and disco ruled and most parents were naive about their kids' activities. Oh yeah!

This funky retro show has it down pat, from fashions to attitudes, and it scores big time with a wide range of viewers, especially those wanting to relive a few priceless moments.

Eric Forman (Topher Grace) reigns as an insightful yet geeky kid who manages to have the sexy neighbour Donna (Laura Prepon) as his girlfriend. Eric's parents - sweet Kitty (Debra Jo Rupp, the wife of Friends' Phoebe's half-brother) and his stern, ex-army and unemployed dad, Red (Kurtwood Smith) - shine.

The family grew a bit larger last season after taking in Hyde, who was abandoned by his mother.

Others in the scene that regularly hang out in the Forman family basement include the cute yet stunningly dim Kelso (Anton Kutcher), his vain girlfriend Jackie (Mila Kunis), who longs to be a Dallas Cowboy cheerleader, and foreign exchange student Fez (Wilmer Valderrama).

In tonight's episode, the brownies are Hyde's contribution to the garage sale since he owns absolutely nothing. The sale is the latest effort to add a few bucks to this family's spiralling economic picture after the plant closes and Red is tossed out of work.

But Hyde, who actually whips up two batches of brownies - one with additives and one straight - makes a big blunder when Eric's and Donna's parents devour the wrong tray.

Get ready to hop aboard the role-reversal ride as these four zone out and groove.

We're not sure if any of this foursome have ever inhaled or even raised a mind-altering substance to their lips, but they provide a polished performance.

Eric's horrified reaction and his sudden parental position is genuine and is a big contributor to the humour.

While the kids are freaking and the parents are stoned, the rest of the gang are watching a flick. After the theatre lights go down, Fez makes a move on Jackie. Ouch!

There is plenty of action in tonight's return and even a few lessons.

Just remember, if you dance with Mary Jane, you get your toes stepped on. We're talking consequences, my friend. You'll have to watch tonight to understand, but don't worry, it's worth it.

Don't forget to catch next week's offering when Kelso agrees to try David Bowie's glam look - hello makeup!
