eBucks waive Danny Manning
MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Veteran forward Danny Manning was waived by the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday after agreeing to a buyout of the final year of his contract.
The move clears the way for Manning to sign with another team, most likely the Utah Jazz.
Manning, who was scheduled to make $7.83 million in the upcoming season, will receive the money from Milwaukee in payments spread out over several years. He was acquired by the Bucks last summer in a trade with the Orlando Magic.
Manning played one season in Milwaukee, averaging 4.6 points and 2.9 rebounds. The 12-year veteran played sparingly for the Bucks, whose high-scoring lineup had little room for Manning's offensive talents.
Manning, the former No. 1 overall pick of the Clippers in 1988 who has undergone significant surgeries on both knees, also has played in Phoenix and Atlanta.
The Jazz hope to sign the 34-year-old Manning with their $1.2 million salary cap exception. Utah, which agreed to a deal with veteran guard John Starks earlier this week, views the 6-foot-10 Manning as a backup to Karl Malone.
Manning visited Salt Lake City last week and is expected to announce his intentions soon.
His departure cuts Milwaukee's roster to 15 players, including forwards Glenn Robinson, Tim Thomas, Scott Williams, Jason Caffey, Billy Owens and Maceo Baston.
Darvin Ham, the team's starting power forward at the end of last season, is unsigned.
