Blackman returns to Mavericks
DALLAS (AP) -- Rolando Blackman, the career scoring leader for the Dallas Mavericks, is rejoining the team as an assistant coach.
The Mavericks said Blackman will serve as the team's defensive coordinator, working with players behind the scenes.
"Rolando is a great asset to our coaching staff," said Don Nelson, the coach and general manager. "He was an incredible player and will be an incredible coach.
Blackman played 11 of his 13 seasons with Dallas and holds 50 team records. He spent his last two seasons with the New York Knicks and retired in 1994.
In March, the Mavericks honored Blackman by retiring his No. 22 jersey.
Blackman has been involved in many community service activities. He is a spokesman for an NBA program that encourages volunteerism.
