Friday, December 5, 1997Walker fined for fingerThe Raptors head coach was fined $5,000 by league disciplinarian Rod Thorn for making an obscene gesture toward a fan after a game Wednesday in Salt Lake City. "That's a lot more than pocket change for me, but I understand," Walker said last night. Raptors players and team officials all said the fan in question had been profane and obnoxious throughout Toronto's 115-98 loss to Utah. However, the NBA has paid special attention this season to what it considers code-of-conduct breaches, the most obvious example being the one-year suspension given to ex-Warriors loose cannon Latrell Sprewell on Thursday. Sprewell was punished for attacking Golden State head coach P.J. Carlesimo. Walker's faux pas may have gone unnoticed by anyone, but Delta Center patrons in the immediate vicinity had it not been captured by TV cameras and shown repeatedly on ESPN. Walker was fined $7,500 last season for his antics at the end of a game in Indianapolis.
