Lukas likes final Charismatic work
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Charismatic satisfied trainer D. Wayne Lukas Tuesday with his final workout before his bid to win the Belmont Stakes and the Triple Crown.
The Kentucky Derby-Preakness winner worked 5-8 of a mile in 1:00 2-5 and galloped out 3-4 in 1:14. His last quarter was 24 seconds.
"I was pleased," Lukas said. "I wanted a little bit more of a race type work. It's been two weeks since he raced."
"I still think the Belmont could be his best race. Could be. We're not dealing with Secretariat here. We're dealing with a horse who had good spring."
Charismatic will be flown to New York Wednesday. On the plane will be Silverbulletday, the filly who will try to foil Charismatic's Triple Crown bid.
