Caledonia, ON – The Hamilton Bulldogs were defeated 4-1 by the Toronto Marlies
in their final game of the pre-season on Sunday night at the Haldimand County
Caledonia Centre. All five goals were
scored on the power play.
Toronto and Hamilton traded power-play goals in the opening
frame. Marlies forward Luke Fulgham
opened the scoring at the 13:18 mark when he took a pass from Jeremy Williams
at the Bulldogs blueline, broke in alone, and beat Hamilton goaltender Olivier
Michaud. Hamilton tied the game at 1-1
with 1:28 remaining in the period when Michael Lambert’s shot deflected off a
Toronto defender past Marlies netminder Jean-Francois Racine.
The Marlies took a 3-1 lead when Dominic D’Amour (at 14:25)
and Jeremy Williams (at 17:02) scored with Bulldogs forward Andrei Kostitsyn
serving a five-minute penalty for high-sticking.
Toronto rounded out the scoring 1:27 into the third period
when Brendan Bell scored the Marlies fourth power play marker on a shot from
the point.
Bulldogs starting goaltender Michaud stopped 12 shots before
being replaced by Jeff DesLauriers midway through the second period. DesLauriers made 15 saves for Hamilton. Racine played the entire game for the
Marlies, stopping 31 of the 32 shots he faced.
Toronto connected on 4 of 13 power play attempts while
Hamilton was 1 for 11.
The Bulldogs will open their 10th Anniversary
season on Friday, October 14th when the Grand Rapids Griffins will
visit Copps Coliseum. Game time is 7:30
