The Hamilton Bulldogs today received one player from the Edmonton Oilers and two players from the Montreal Canadiens

The Hamilton Bulldogs today received one player from the Edmonton Oilers and two players from the Montreal Canadiens.  Edmonton assigned defenceman Danny Syvret, while defenceman Ron Hainsey and forward Peter Vandermeer were designated for assignment by Montreal (conditional to waiver claim).

Syvret, a native of Millgrove, Ontario, captained the OHL’s London Knights to the 2005 Memorial Cup Championship.  The 20-year-old won the Max Kaminsky Trophy as the OHL’s most outstanding defencemen after recording 69 points (23 goals, 46 assists) and 33 penalty minutes in 62 games last season with London.  Syvret, the Oilers 3rd choice, 51st overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, collected 122 points (34 goals, 88 assists) and 96 penalty minutes in 198 career OHL games with the Knights.

Hainsey, a native of Bolton, Connecticut, is the Bulldogs all-time leading goal scorer (18) and point-producer (67) amongst defencemen.  Last season with Hamilton he played in 68 games, earning 23 points (nine goals, 14 assists) and 45 penalty minutes.  During his career, he has skated in 32 games with the Montreal Canadiens, recording two points (one goal, one assist) and six penalty minutes.  In 222 career AHL games, the 24-year-old has produced 135 points (26 goals, 73 assists) and 132 penalty minutes.

Vandermeer, 29, tallied 17 points (four goals, 13 assists) and 310 penalty minutes in 73 games with the Grand Rapids Griffins (AHL) in 2004-05.  The 6’0, 210-pound left-winger has earned 93 points (43 goals, 50 assists) and amassed 1759 penalty minutes in 380 career AHL contests.

The Hamilton Bulldogs will open their 10th Anniversary season on Friday, October 14th when the Grand Rapids Griffins visit Copps Coliseum.  Game time is 7:30 p.m.  Tickets are available at the Copps Coliseum Box Office, any TicketMaster outlet, online at ticketmaster.ca or by calling the Bulldogs office at (905) 529-8500.
