Kristine Drakich is an accomplished beach volleyball player and volleyball coach. She is a leader in and out of sports, an advocate of humanitarian issues and a dedicated member of her community.
As a coach, she currently directs the University of Toronto womenÕs volleyball team. SheÕs won five Ontario University Coach of the Year awards since 1990 and received the 3M Coach of the Year presented by the Coaching Association of Canada in 1998. At the U of T she is also a physical education instructor.
Drakich is actively contributing to the development and implementation of sport policy that embraces diversity and equity in sport. In 1997 she was elected by the professional beach volleyball players to be the womenÕs player advisor to the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB). She initiated and convinced the FIVB council to approve motions for equal prize money for women and men at world tour events.
Outside sport she is a spokesperson for the Breast Cancer Society of Canada and is also involved in the Osteoporosis SocietyÕs annual fundraising walk. Diane Jones Konihowski (CAAWS)
