Eldon Godfrey has made an important contribution to Canadian and international diving since he founded the University of Calgary Diving Club in 1973. He has been a diving official since 1978 and has judged at almost every World Cup, world championships and Olympic diving competition since.
Godfrey was president of the Aquatic Federation of Canada from 1980 to 1982 and has been a member since 1978. He was also president of the Canadian Amateur Diving Association (CADA) from 1976-1980 and has been a member of CADA’s committees for technical development, officials and judge development.
In total he has held or continues to hold upwards of 12 different board and high level committee positions within national and international diving and aquatic federations.
With FINA, the international federation for aquatic sports, he was secretary then vice- chairman of the technical diving committee from 1980 to 1996 and is currently a member of the FINA Bureau. He held the same position with the Amateur Swimming Union of the Americas from 1979 and is presently vice president of that organization.
