The Sports Network has been a major sponsor of the Canadian Special Olympics (CSO) for the past 10 years. There are three elements to TSN's annual support of the Special Olympics.

The Canadian Special Olympics is a beneficiary of the Player of the Game awards on TSN's major league baseball telecasts. This generated $10,000 to the CSO. TSN also broadcasted in prime a one-hour show on the 1998 Canadian Special Olympics Summer Games which were held in Sudbury, Ont. TSN donated the advertising time to the CSO for allocation to its major sponsors whose contributions paid for the production of the program.

"An hour long documentary of this kind constitutes an important forum for public awareness and education on the Special Olympics movement in Canada," said Jim Jordan, president of the CSO.

Finally TSN produced a three and a half hour prime time telecast of the 1998 Sports Celebrities Festival Dinner Auction for the Special Olympics. This annual event is produced free of charge by TSN and all advertising is donated to event sponsors. It is the largest media event for the CSO and TSN's contribution is the key factor in producing net revenues in 1998 of over $750,000 for the CSO.
