    Canadian Sport Awards Winners Announced

     OTTAWA -- The 28TH ANNUAL Canadian Sport Awards, presented by Investors Group, were held in Toronto on Wednesday, March 22nd. Multiple world champion kayaker Carolyn Brunet was the recipient of the Velma Springstead Award as female athlete of the year. Daniel Igali, Canada's first world champion wrestler was named Male Athlete of the Year.

    Canadian Sport Awards Announces Finalists

     OTTAWA -- The Spirit of Sport Foundation today announced the 1999 finalists for the 28TH ANNUAL Canadian Sport Awards, presented by Investors Group, to be held in Toronto on Wednesday, March 22nd. More than ninety individuals were nominated for awards to be presented in eleven categories. As well, over thirty corporations were nominated in four categories recognizing corporate excellence in support of amateur sport in Canada.

     The Women and Sport Breakthrough Awards were established by CAAWS in 1986 to recognize individuals and organizations whose accomplishments push the limits and enhance the participation of girls and women in sport and physical activity.
