Outstanding Female and Male Aboriginal Athlete

The Tom Longboat Award, named in honour of one of the most accomplished athletes in Canadian history, is presented annually by the Aboriginal Sport Circle to the most outstanding female and male Aboriginal athlete in Canada. A proud member of the Onondaga Nation who resided in Six Nations of the Grand River, Tom Longboat was one of the most gifted long distance runners of his time. At various times, he held every Canadian record from one mile to marathon. He was the headline attraction wherever he raced, drawing huge crowds and a widespread following. Established in 1951, the Tom Longboat Awards serve as a proud national symbol for all Aboriginal peoples in Canada.
