"Unquestionable demand" for bullet- and stab-resistant clothing has prompted a British body armour company to open a branch in Canada.
Canadians who need defence from firearms, knives, syringes and even human bites will no longer have to worry about "import duties, shipping cost and time-consuming paperwork" to get a hold of protective clothing from U.K.-based PPSS Group, which says it supplies prisons, emergency personnel and homeland security agencies around the world.
So confident is the company in its products that CEO Robert Kaiser appears in a demonstration video that shows him being shot by a Glock 19 pistol from a distance of three metres.
"Did it hurt? It certainly did hurt — it hurt a lot. Will I suffer for a couple days from severe bruising? Yes." he says. "But you know what? This demonstration proves that ...wearing our body armour, you've got a high chance of going home to your wife and children afterwards."
The Canadian branch is based in Toronto.
