A Canadian comedian has revealed he is the one who started up a coffee shop called Dumb Starbucks in Los Angeles.

The "coffee experience," which was shut down Monday afternoon by health inspectors, was a parody of the real coffee shop chain, Nathan Fielder said in a YouTube video.

"Many of you probably know me as a comedian, but this is no bit or joke. This is a real business I plan to get rich from," the Vancouver comedian said.

The local ABC affiliate said dozens waited in line on the weekend to get a dumb vanilla latte or copy of their dumb jazz standards CD.

"What we're all in line for isn't coffee. It's a commentary, and the cup. I'm excited to save the cup. There's absolutely artistic value here," customer Brian Morrison told KABC.

Flyers distributed by the shop also noted Dumb Starbucks was an art gallery, and the coffee was considered the art.
