  • WEEK SEVEN - Colts 31 at 49ers 34

    Oct. 18, 1998

By DAVE WATKINS -- SLAM! Sports Executive Producer
     Ouch!
For a while it seemed as though the Colts were going to do something they hadn't been able to do in just more than 30 years -- beat the 49ers at home.
The Colts jumped out to a surprising 21-0 lead in the second quarter before the 49ers sprang to life. Mike tripled his season extra point total, converting three touchdowns, and added a 38-yard field goal in the third quarter to boost the Colts' lead to 31-17. Of course, the 49ers had 30 years of history to preserve. It was San Francisco kicker Wade Richey in the spotlight on this day, booting a 24-yard field goal with only 0:05 on the clock.
