Fundraising
The public will have a chance to drive a Zamboni in 69 communities. The Goodyear Drive For Gold Tour will visit 69 Canadian cities and towns from St. John's, Newfoundland to Victoria, British Columbia. In each community the public will have a chance to board the Zamboni and drive down main street along with a parade of tour vehicles. In order to "jump on board" the public will be asked to donate $20.02 to the CHA for each 1-km "leg". For detailed information, please refer to the "Tour Dates" page and click on a city name.
Other major fundraising initiatives associated with the tour are:
1. Tour Merchandise - SportChek/Sport Experts will be designing a line of Goodyear Drive For Gold clothing that will be available at retail. SportChek/Sport Experts will also donate funds from a corporate initiative entitled "the Forzani Foundation". The Foundation will raise money via a program that allows to public to send a "best wishes" message to the Men's and Women's National Team competing at the 2002 Winter Olympics. For a donation of $2, a message will be delivered to the teams at the start of the Games. For detailed information, please refer to "Merchandise".
2. On-Line Auction - hockey memorabilia and once-in-a-lifetime experiences will be auctioned and all proceeds are directed to CHA. At the conclusion of the tour, the official Goodyear Drive For Gold Zamboni will be auctioned as well. For detailed information, please refer to "Auctions".
3. Corporate Sponsorship - CHA is pleased that the corporate community has eagerly supported the program with funding and marketing programs. Goodyear Canada has made a substantial commitment as Title Sponsor. They will also be mobilizing their national dealer network in support of this program. Goodyear is leading an elite group of sponsors and suppliers that include Canada Post Corporation, SportChek/Sport Experts, AMJ Van Lines, BD Consumer Healthcare, makers of TENSOR, Imperial Oil, Best Western, CANOE.ca and the City of Brantford. These sponsorships will aid in funding the actual operation of the tour. For detailed information, please refer to "Sponsors".
