Friday, November 12, 1999 Bruins sign Joe MurphyBOSTON (AP) -- Joe Murphy, who practised all week with the New York Rangers and appeared set to sign with them, instead agreed to a one-year contract with the Boston Bruins on Friday.Murphy, an unrestricted free agent, has scored 20 or more goals in seven of his 10 full NHL seasons. He was the first player chosen in the 1986 NHL entry draft, by Detroit. After three seasons with the Red Wings, he was traded to Edmonton, where he was a member of the Stanley Cup-winning Oilers during the 1989-90 season. Murphy later played for Chicago, St. Louis and San Jose. He became an unrestricted free agent after collecting 25 goals and 23 assists for the Sharks last season. "We think Joe is a good fit for this team," said Harry Sinden, Bruins president and general manager. "He is a strong skater, will be an asset on the power-play and he has proven that he can score on a consistent basis."
