Tuesday, December 1, 1998 Buffalo's Ray suspended four gamesNEW YORK (CP) -- Buffalo Sabres right-winger Rob Ray was suspended for four games and fined $1,000 by the NHL on Monday for "slew-footing" Florida Panthers left-winger Alex Hicks in a game Saturday.The incident occurred at 8:12 of the third period, when Ray knocked Hicks backward onto the ice by kicking his feet out from under him. Ray was assessed a match penalty for deliberately attempting to injure his opponent. Ray served one game of the suspension Sunday prior to a hearing conducted by NHL director of hockey operations Colin Campbell. Ray is to miss home games against Florida tonight and Philadelphia on Friday, and a road game against Nashville on Saturday. Ray also forfeits $15,625 of his annual salary. NHL suspensions this season:October9: Anaheim defenceman Ruslan Salei suspended for five games for "slew-footing" Phoenix foward Daniel Briere. Also fined $1,000 US. 14: Colorado winger Keith Jones, two games and $1,000 fine for a check to the head of Buffalo forward Curtis Brown. 15: Buffalo defenceman Richard Smehlik, one game and $1,000 fine for high-sticking Colorado forward Valeri Kamensky. 19: Montreal winger Turner Stevenson, two games and $1,000 fine for elbow to the face of Buffalo forward Dixon Ward. 21: Boston forward Rob DiMaio, two games and $1,000 fine for elbow to the face of Phoenix forward Dallas Drake. 23: Nashville winger Denny Lambert, four games and $1,000 fine for slashing Detroit winger Kirk Maltby. 29: Montreal defenceman Dave Manson, three games and $1,000 fine for elbowing Boston forward P.J. Axelsson. November 5: Buffalo winger Matthew Barnaby, four games and $1,000 fine for blow to the head of Boston forward P.J.
