    Game over

By MARK MILLER -- Calgary Sun

     SUN THREE STARS:

     1. Fred Brathwaite, Flames: Made 32 saves for his second shutout of the season.

     2. Ed Belfour, Stars: Turned aside 31 Calgary shots for a shutout of his own.

     3. Brett Hull, Stars: A dangerous offensive force all night.

     TURNING POINT:

Fred Brathwaite proved you have to be lucky to be good. In OT, Mike Modano deflected a Brett Hull pass past the Flames netminder put the puck bounced harmlessly away after hitting the post.

     HIT OF THE GAME:

In the second period, Flames winger Cale Hulse demonstrated why he's been an effective forward since being moved up from the blueline. He rode Stars Mike Keane heavily into the boards, sending the Dallas player sprawling from a hit that shook the boards.

     SAVE OF THE GAME:

Early in the game, the Stars' Kirk Muller fired a wrist shot from the slot that Fred Brathwaite turned away, only to have the rebound bounce onto the stick of Dallas sniper Brett Hull. But as Hull fired, Brathwaite stacked his pads and dove to smother the rebound shot.

     NOTEWORTHY:

Goalie Grant Fuhr is expected to be out of the Calgary lineup at least three weeks after undergoing what Flames officials are calling a successful arthroscopic evaluation of his right knee. Doctors removed scar tissue and cleaned up rough surfaces in the knee. The team recalled goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere from Saint John to back up Fred Brathwaite last night ... Flames winger Steve Dubinsky is set to undergo knee surgery today ... Calgary loaned minor-leaguer Travis Brigley from Saint John of the AHL to Detroit of the IHL yesterday ... Brett Hull needs three goals for 600 in his career, which began in Calgary. He had five shots on the Calgary net in the second period last night playing on line with Mike Modano and newly signed Kirk Muller ... When Dallas scores at least three goals in a game, they are a perfect 13-0 ... Calgary's Phil Housley needs three goals to tie Denis Potvin for third in the all-time goals list for defenceman ... The only healthy scratch for the Flames was winger Andrei Nazarov, who is once more in the doghouse of Flames coach Brian Sutter. Rene Corbet played his first game since breaking his foot Nov. 3 ... Calgary's last win vs. Dallas came in January of last year when Brathwaite shut out the Stars in Calgary 1-0 ... Calgary went into last night's game with five wins in row at home. The last time they had won six in a row was 1992-93 when Mike Vernon was in goal ... Calgary is now 6-1-5 in overtime games this season.
