Tuesday, November 23, 1999 Robyn makes grade
Robyn Regehr looks to have passed the test. "I haven't heard a word,'' said Regehr yesterday, when asked if anyone from the organization had spoken to him about his immediate future. "Is that good?'' An overwhelming vote of confidence, actually. By playing in his 10th NHL game tonight, the 19-year-old Regehr has a year forfeited from his contract, regardless of whether the Flames keep him here for the entire season or not. Losing that year is a major incentive for teams to make a firm decision on whether to commit to a young player for the full schedule. "I've tried not to let the 10-game thing affect me,'' said Regehr. "I didn't want to become preoccupied with any sort of deadline or anything. Some nights, I'll admit, you couldn't help but have it pop into your head, especially after a tough game.'' There haven't been too many of those, though. "Reggie had a period there where he struggled; all young players do,'' said coach Brian Sutter. "But he got through it because of his tremendous fundamentals.'' JOHANSSON READY: The newest Flame, Andreas Johansson, practised at the 'Dome yesterday and will be in uniform tonight. "I felt good, but I'm going to have to get used to the altitude,'' he said, after an hour and a half workout. Johansson is expected to make his Calgary bow playing on a line with Jeff Shantz and Val Bure. "He scored 21 goals in 60 games (for Ottawa) last year so obviously he can put the puck in the net,'' said Sutter. "And we need more offence. If you check, there were two or three reasons the Senators didn't do as well as they'd hoped in the playoffs -- and one of them was, this guy was hurt.''
