    Flames sign Iginla

CALGARY (CP) -- Right-winger Jarome Iginla, who missed the Calgary Flames' first two regular-season games in a contract dispute, has signed a three-year deal with the NHL team.
Iginla, a native of Edmonton, led the Flames with 28 goals last season.
"It was really tough to sit out and watch the games," said Iginla. "I hope I never have to go through it again."
Neither Iginla nor the team would disclose financial details, but he did say it has a reasonable bonus structure. The three-year package is likely worth somewhere in the range of $5 million US.
"It is a substantial amount of money," said Flames general manager Al Coates.
"We're very relieved to have it done and not have to worry about it for a long time."
Coates acknowledged that if the Flames hope to even have a shot at the playoffs they need players like Iginla in the lineup.
The six-foot-one, 200-pound Iginla has played the last three seasons for Calgary, appearing in 234 games with 62 goals and 71 assists.
He was the Dallas Stars' No. 1 pick, 11th overall, in the 1995 entry draft, but was traded to Calgary along with Corey Millen on Dec. 19, 1995, for Joe Nieuwendyk.
