Wednesday, September 1, 1999 Flames season-ticket sales downCALGARY (CP) -- The Calgary Flames' season-ticket base has shrunk to about 9,000, the lowest in 17 years. The Flames rarely make season-ticket sales official, but it has been widely speculated the club had 14,000 season-ticket holders three seasons ago and somewhere between 11,000 and 12,000 last season. "We don't just need fans. We need supporters. We need people who are there for us when we are building and growing and improving and getting better," team president and chief executive officer Ron Bremner told the Calgary Herald. "Not just fans who are going to say 'We will be there when you get into the second round of the playoffs. Then we will come and see you."' Bremner confirmed season-ticket sales are about 9,000 for this season. "This is not an obligatory thing, nobody has to come out and cheer for the Flames. Nobody has to buy a ticket. They've got options," said Bremner. "At some point down the line, the owners also have options." The cheapest season ticket this year is $515 and the most expensive, in the club seats, is $3,389. |
