Thursday, September 30, 1999 Flames trade Simpson to FloridaCALGARY (CP) -- The Calgary Flames have dealt captain Todd Simpson to the Florida Panthers in exchange for left-winger Bill Lindsay.Lindsay, 28, had 12 goals and 15 assists in 75 games last season for the Panthers, for whom he has played the last six seasons. He will earn $750,000 US this season. Simpson, a 26-year-old defenceman, had two goals, eight assists and was plus-18 in 73 games for the Flames last season. The six-foot-three 215-pound native of North Vancouver played three seasons for Calgary. He'll make $1.06 million US this year. "It's disappointing because everyone likes Todd as a person," said Flames spokesman Peter Hanlon. "But from a hockey move, it makes great sense. "We have veteran leadership in goal, we have veteran leadership on defence and now we're adding that at forward."
