    Labour strife

By GEORGE JOHNSON -- Calgary Sun
      It's Labour Day.
But there is not yet labour peace with Jarome Iginla, with veterans reporting for physicals at the U of C's Human Performance Lab this morning.
Chances of Iginla being on the ice tomorrow when training camp proper opens are slim, although general manager Al Coates and agent Don Meehan are expected to talk again today.
"Really, I don't know where we are in negotiations because the discussions we've had have been more philosophical in nature -- who both Don and I believe are comparable players to Jarome -- than dollars and cents," said Coates yesterday. "If he's unsigned (Tuesday) it's unclear whether we would want him in camp or whether he'd show up anyway. If we make significant strides in reaching a deal before then, I'd prefer he be there.
"For a young player -- any player, for that matter -- missing the start of training camp puts you behind right away. Jarome's a young guy and he wants to play. He's letting his agent handle this, which is the right thing to do. But at some point, no matter how old a player is, the decision is his. Ultimately, he is the boss."
Iginla earned $850,000 US last year, and would likely be looking for a salary in the $1.5 million range.
