![]() The Oilers' 11th captain in team history may well be a lifelong Edmonton member. He first joined the team in the 1987 playoffs, and is still among the NHL's best team motivators and leaders by example. In 1997-98, he completed a decade of service as one of only two Oiler players to complete a full 82-game schedule, recording 23 points and 122 penalty minutes. Edmonton's all-time penalty minute leader is a tough customer who won't back down. He had his best season in 1991-92 when he recorded his first--and only--20-goal season, a year that also saw him complete his only NHL hat trick. Buchberger played his 700th NHL game against Colorado on December 27, 1997, not a bad feat for a ninth-round pick, 188th overall. He has twice played for Canada at the World Championships. Buchberger's an official member of two Edmonton Oiler Stanley Cup teams. For more on Kelly Buchberger, check out Hockey PLUS |
