![]() Hamrlik definitely has the tools to be amongst the NHL's top 10 blueliners. One of those rare defencemen with the ability to control a game, Hamrlik is mobile, sees the ice well and can spend a lot of time on the ice. Hamrlik was happy to get out of Tampa Bay--he never got along with coach Terry Crisp. Nonetheless, it's with the latter that the Czech defenceman enjoyed his most productive season in the NHL when he recorded 16 goals and 65 points in 1995-96. The Oilers acquired Hamrlik from the Tampa Bay Lightning on December 30, 1997 in exchange for defenceman Bryan Marchment and forwards Steve Kelly and Jason Bonsignore. He was the NHL's first overall choice in 1992--Tampa Bay's first-ever draft pick . The speedy defender was only 16 when he joined the Czech senior league. He played in the 1996 NHL all-star game and was a member of the Czech Republic team at the 1996 World Cup. For more on Roman Hamrlik, check out Hockey PLUS |
