![]() Invited to the Leafs camp on a tryout basis in September of 1997, Moscow-born Igor Korolev signed a short-term deal a few days later and rewarded the organization by recording 17 goals and 39 points in 78 games. Moreover, Korolev placed as the NHL's 10th-best in shooting percentage with a 17.5% mark. Korolev was chosen 38th overall by the St. Louis Blues in 1992, but didn't make a ripple until 1995-96 when he had 51 points in 73 games for the Winnipeg Jets who had previously claimed him on waivers. Korolev and Jet management began the 1996-97 season in a contract row and when things finally settled, the Russian winger had problems getting his game back on track and could only muster 10 points in 41 contests. That, despite the presence of Cliff Ronning and Mike Gartner as linemates. Korolev wound up being replaced by tough guy Kris King--who's also presently with the Leafs. Blessed with great hands and speed, Korolev spent five seasons with the Moscow Dynamo, where his amassed 51 points in 100 games. For more on Igor Korolev check out Hockey PLUS |
