![]() In 1996-97, the Maple Leafs were expecting Fredrik Modin to make an impact at the NHL. Modin, who has good size and plays a strong game along the fence and in front of the net, suffered a separated shoulder on the first day of training camp and missed the entire pre-season. As a rookie, Modin ended up playing very impressive hockey at times, dressing up for 76 games with six goals and 13 points, a production he almost tripled as a sophomore in 1997-98. Toronto drafted Modin in the third round (64th overall) of the 1994 entry draft, and gave him a brief look in the 1995-96 season before sending him back home to Sweden--where he spent five years--for additional experience.
