![]() One of the best playmakers in the league, Weight is an exceptionally gifted skater. He was the Oilers' top point producer for a fourth straight year in 1997-98. He also led the team in shots (205, tied with Ryan Smith), power play points (29) and average ice time per game (22:16). Weight amassed 104 points for Edmonton in 1995-96--his best NHL output--, establishing himself among the upper echelon of NHL playmaking centres. He arrived to Edmonton from New York in a 1993 St. Patrick's Day trade that sent Esa Tikkanen to the Rangers. Weight was a member of the recent World Cup-winning American team. He outscored Eric Lindros and everybody else at the 1990 world junior championships in Saskatoon with five goals and 19 points. He also played for Team USA at the World Championships in 1993 and 1994. One of the Oilers rotating alternate captains, Weight made his NHL debut in Game 6 of the Patrick Division final in 1991. Drafted 34th overall by the New York Rangers' in the 1990 entry draft, Weight spent two years at Lake Superior State (1989-91), and was named to the CCHA first all-star team in 1991 and the NCAA second all-american team in 1991.
